Poet patriot Joyce Kilmer was paid $6 for his famous poem "Trees," which he wrote in his Mahwah house on February 2, 1913. It appeared for the first time in the August, 1913 issue of Poetry magazine, and remains one of the most often-quoted poems in the English language.
