Mahwah Ambulance Owner Evaded Taxes By Creating New Companies: Feds

A Mahwah ambulance company owner created new companies to avoid payroll taxes, federal prosecutors said.

MAHWAH, NJ – The owner of several New Jersey companies, including an emergency medical services company in Mahwah, pleaded guilty to evading taxes this week, prosecutors said.

Louis V. Greco III, 38, of Highland Mills, N.Y., pleaded guilty Wednesday before U.S. District Court Judge Georgette Castner in Trenton federal court, said the U.S. Attorney's Office.

He was charged with tax evasion for tax years 2018 to 2022, said prosecutors.

Beginning in 2018, the company failed to pay payroll taxes to the IRS, say federal prosecutors.

After the IRS began to try to collect the taxes, Greco opened SSME Services LLC and moved the employees to that firm, then continued to avoid the taxes, prosecutors say.

When the IRS tried to collect taxes from the new company, Greco opened Lime Line Operations LLC and moved the employees there, prosecutors say.

"From 2018 to 2022, Greco caused these three companies to fail to pay to the IRS more than $1.4 million in payroll taxes," prosecutors said in a release.

The tax evasion charge carries a maximum potential penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 5, prosecutors said.
