Mahwah Detectives Seize 450 Bags Of Heroin Following Investigation: Police
3 arrested after a drug deal went down in the Burger King parking lot on Route 17 North, police said.
MAHWAH, NJ — Police detectives seized 450 bags of heroin Monday following a narcotics investigation that led to the arrest of three people, said police Chief James Batelli.
Detectives Michael Grassi and Eric Larsen were patrolling near Island Road and Route 17 when they saw a suspicious silver Hyundai SUV and a man, Terrence Hulse, 33, in the Burger King parking lot on the highway, Batelli said.
Detectives saw Hulse loitering in the parking lot, exiting the vehicle several times, and looking at several cell phones, police said.

Grassi and Larsen watched Hulse and saw a BMW sedan pull up to him a short while later. Stanley Edwards and Tiffany Reardon, both 24, exchange a package with Hulse for a bundle of currency, Batelli said.
Grassi and Larsen approached the three and Hulse threw the narcotics bag under the BMW; Edwards ran toward Route 17, but detectives quickly apprehended him, Batelli said. The money he was carrying fell to the ground, police said.

Police seized 450 bags of heroin, 10 bags of crack cocaine, and money as a result of the investigation.
"The availability of heroin and other opiates throughout the area and the state continues to demonstrate the epidemic proportions and readily availability of these narcotics," Batelli said.
Several possession charges were filed against Hulse, Edwards, and Reardon, police said. Hulse was also charged with destruction of evidence.
Superior Court Judge Susan Steele set bail for Hulse, of Fallsburgh, and Edwards, at $200,000 each with no 10 percent option. They were remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail. Tiffany Reardon was released on her own recognizance, Batelli said.
