Buses provided by the Chaverim of Rockland transported elderly evacuees who were not in need of urgent medical care to the nearby New Golden Acres assisted living facility.
Residents have since been relocated from the temporary staging area, in some cases to stay with family members or else have found placement at other long-term care facilities in the region, according to a Patch report. Read more: Spring Valley Fire: Relocating More Than 100 Residents

But fire officials also spent Tuesday searching for one of their own, and now, on Wednesday, grieving will follow.
One resident died, and nine residents and two injured firefighters were taken to local hospitals, according to Rockland officials. Officials were searching for a missing firefighter Tuesday, and announced Wednesday that he had been found dead.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of the line of duty death of firefighter Jared Lloyd from Dept. 17, the Spring Valley Fire Department. Jared made the ultimate sacrifice while helping residents during yesterday’s massive fire at the Evergreen Home for Adults," wrote Mahwah Fire Company 2 officials.
"Co. 2 has had the privilege of growing a great camaraderie and close relationship with the members of Jared’s firehouse over the years. They’ve always been there for us in times of celebration and in times of tragedy. Needless to say, we will do everything we can to assist them in the difficult days ahead."
