Mahwah Police Reported No Major Infractions In 2021
Eight Bergen County agencies reported officers had been fired, demoted or suspended five or more days in 2021. Mahwah was not one of these.
MAHWAH, NJ — Mahwah Police had to report the names of all officers who were subject to major discipline in 2021. There were none.
The state Attorney General’s Office released a report detailing any “major” disciplinary consequences law enforcement officers faced in New Jersey’s municipalities. Eight Bergen County agencies reported officers had been fired, demoted or suspended five or more days in 2021.
This is the first full year the Office of the Attorney General released these reports. Last year, the AG’s office released the names and agencies of officers who were fired, demoted or suspended five or more days from June 15, 2020 to the end of the calendar year.

The AG’s office began directing all NJ law enforcement agencies to submit Major Discipline Reporting Forms last year.

Bergen County Sheriff’s Office
Officer Bianca Bloncourt, “suspended for 7 days for violating the departmental sick leave policy.”
Officer John Marra, “suspended for 10 days for violating departmental policies and procedures.”
Officer Steven DeAngelis, “suspended for 25 days for violating departmental policies and procedures.”
Officer Cindy Castro, “terminated for violating departmental policies and procedures.”
Dumont Police
Police Officer Patrick McDermott, suspended 180 days for “Conduct unbecoming and Violation of department Rules & regulations related to his interaction with and conduct toward an individual under arrest.”
Edgewater Police
Officer Richardo Hernandez, “suspended for 69 days as a result of Sussex County Prosecutor’s investigation and seizure of duty weapon. Criminal charges were dismissed and duty weapon was returned upon completion of department investigations.”
Paramus Police
Officer David Betancourt, suspended 60 days for “Off duty DUI.”
Ramsey Police
Officer Matthew Rork, “terminated for Conduct Unbecoming & Violation Sexual Harrasment Policy for having improper communication with a party involved in a police investigation.”
Ridgefield Park Police
Sergeant Albert Baker, suspended 30 days, “neglected his duty at the scene of a significant motor vehicle accident.”
Saddle Brook Police
Police Officer Adam Georgaros, suspended 123 days for “SBPD Policy and Procedure Violations.”
Westwood Police
Officer Brian Donaghy, suspended 15 days for “violation of appropriate standards of conduct.”
