Man Pleads Not Guilty To Murdering Bergen Ex-Girlfriend: Report

A former New York City police officer plead not guilty Monday to charges that he stalked and murdered his ex-girlfriend in her Midland Park home, The Record reported.

Arthur Lomandos' attorney, entered a not guilty plea on behalf of his client on murder, weapons charges, stalking, witness tampering, hindering apprehension, and violating a domestic violence restraining order, according to the report.

Lomando is accused of using a 9-and-a-half-inch long machete to stab Bardzell to death in her driveway Oct. 22. Bardzell was a special education teacher in Teaneck. She took out a restraining order on Lomando three weeks before she was killed.

Lomando and Bardzell met online and had a turbulent three-year relationship.

Lomando reportedly violated the restraining order several times, including one incident where he led police from 27 Bergen County police departments on a massive search for him.

Lomando allegedly broke into Bardzell's apartment Oct. 5 and threatened to kill her with scissors.

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal previously said that Lomando waited for Bardzell to come home the day she was killed.

Authorities said Lomando threw himself in front of a New York City subway train. Lomando and his attorneys are claiming he slipped or was pushed from the crowded platform. They're suing the New York City Transit Authority for $50 million. His legs had to be amputated below the knees as a result of the incident.

The case will be back in court June 27, the report said.
