Man Sexually Assaulted Bergen Woman While She Slept: Prosecutor

The woman woke up during the assault, authorities said.

A South Jersey man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in her Lyndhurst home, said Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal.

Pedro A. Castillo-Valdes, 35, of Barnegat, was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault and second-degree sexual assault.

A woman reported to the Lyndhurst Police Department that early Friday morning, Castillo-Valdes assaulted her while she slept, Grewal said. Lyndhurst police and the prosecutor’s office Special Victims Unit investigated the allegation.

The woman said she woke up during the alleged assault, Grewal said.

Castillo-Valdes was charged on Wednesday. Bergen County Superior Court Judge Christopher R. Kazlaud set bail at $100,000 with no 10 percent cash option. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail, Grewal said.

Castillo-Valdes is to have no contact with the woman or her family and must turn in his passport if released on bail. He is schedule to make his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court Friday morning, the prosecutor said.
