Kindergarteners:
"I like Abraham Lincoln because his name sounds cool!"
"President Obama because he is very nice."                   "George Washington inspired me because he chopped down a cherry tree."                                            "George Washington because he rides on a bear."

First Graders:                                                          "George Washington. He shares my birthday and he was the 1st president."                                        "Barack Obama because he is the president now."

Second Graders:
"George Washington.  He inspired me by standing up for myself."
"Abraham Lincoln.  He inspired me because he freed the slaves and he fought in the Revolutionary war."

Third Graders:
"I think my favorite president is Thomas Jefferson because he wrote the Declaration of Independence and he was a great president.  He also helped write the Constitution."                                                         "Thomas Jefferson because I am named after him and that he is big in the war."                                  "Abraham Lincoln.  He stopped slavery while all the presidents before him like George Washington didn’t even try, so some of my friends wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for him. So the way he inspires me is the way he thought of others that were slaves and risked his life for them. He reminds me to be brave and do what is right even when others are against it because there is always people out there who are on your side."

Fourth Graders:

"I like Abraham Lincoln because he fought for equality in America."

"Abraham Lincoln because he believed that all humans should have the same rights, help outlaw slavery, and helped us win the civil war."
"George Washington because he fought against the British.  After that the U.S. was made."

Fifth Graders:
"George Washington because he was the first president and that makes me feel like I can do anything. If he can do something amazing, why can't I?"
"Abe Lincoln because he signed the Emancipation Proclamation that freed all the slaves.  Today, we don't have slavery because of Abe Lincoln."
"Thomas Jefferson.  He created the declaration of Independence.  The declaration of Independence is about the importance of rights & freedom.  He also believed all men should be treated equally.  I hope I can become a great ruler just like him."
"Abraham Lincoln.  He led to the end of slavery.  I want to end a tragic event too some day."
