AP Calls NJ 39th Senate Race For Republican Holly Schepisi

Incumbent Republican Holly Schepisi retained a commanding lead over Democratic challenger Ruth Dugan in New Jersey's 39th District.

NJ 39 — The Associated Press has called the race for State Senate in New Jersey's 39th District for incumbent Republican Holly Schepisi.

With all but three precincts reporting, Schepisi, who stepped into the seat after the death of long-time State Senator Gerald Cardinale, looks to have garnered just over 58 percent of the vote.

"Thank you to everyone who had faith in me, who voted for me, who supported me, who volunteered and worked on my campaign, who worked in my legislative office and helped the thousands of people who felt that they had nowhere to turn over the past 19 months," she said.

"It was each and every one of you who helped me get elected to continue representing you as the senator for District 39. Thank you to my husband and children who sacrifice every day so that I can do this job. I promise to make you all proud."

With all precincts in Bergen County reporting, the AP reports that Schepisi garnered just under 58 percent of the vote there, and nearly 59 percent of the vote in Passaic County, with three precincts left to report.

Here is the latest, unofficial, vote count from the Associated Press:

  • Holly Schepisi (R) — 44,172
  • Ruth Dugan (D) — 31,454
  • James Tosone (I) — 382
