Gas Theft On Route 17 Thwarted, Mahwah Police Say

A gas attendant got the license plate of someone who left a Mahwah truck stop without paying, police said.

MAHWAH, NJ — Someone who almost got gas for free was thwarted in Mahwah on Wednesday night by an eagle-eyed attendant, police said.

A person filling their tank at a truck stop on Route 17 on Wednesday night left without paying, police said. But because the attendant got the license plate number, police were able to track the business.

The driver in question said the situation was a misunderstanding and had meant to pay, police said.

The person agreed to pay, and the gas station agreed to accept the money and not file charges, police said.
