In response to the events in Las Vegas...
A statement on the events in Las Vegas...

What occurred in Las Vegas has taken me back to other mass shootings, namely Sandy Hook, which I have written about previously.
I believe that there are ten, primary problems with our society that are truly to its detriment.

- We are reactive as a people, not proactive
- We are lazy and more interested in headlines than we are, substance
- We take no issue with accepting mediocrity as the norm
- We allow pop culture to destroy our own minds, while inhibiting the development of our kids'. Pop culture is poison
- We have allowed corporations to control our lives (most of us don't even know this is happening)
- We are all told to be politically correct
- We allow the media to get away with everything and anything
- We have become friends with our kids. We are no longer parents
- We care about Party before we do Country
- We only feel genuine empathy when something impacts us, personally
Former Vice President Biden's efforts with Cancer research are fantastic. But where was he on this issue before his son was diagnosed? All of those folks who protested against the elimination of DACA, where were they a few years ago when Congress did nothing to pass legislation that would have made Obama's Executive Order, unnecessary? And after Sandy Hook, when Congress did nothing...all those hundreds of thousands of people that were outraged by that event...where'd they go?
To me, this is an American problem. It doesn't matter on which side of the gun debate you are on because this same behavior would occur on any potential legislation about which you care. From our environment, to gun control, abortion, and a thousand other topics, if you are only engaged in the fight when something you’re concerned about is in the headlines, then, in my view, you lack the right to complain when nothing changes.

Am I pissed about what happened in Las Vegas? Very. Am I sad for the families and victims? Very. But you know what I also am? Fed up. I'm fed up with people complaining and then doing something about it just long enough, until the next episode of This Is Us airs. If you want there to be change in this country...then do what you need to do, to change it.
As I wrote in a recent Facebook post, we need a lot less Americans 'tweeting' and a lot more watching CSPAN.
To watch the President read comments prepared for him by someone else does not make me feel better about anything. A true leader doesn't need a script.
