Part Of Route 202 Closed Until Monday Due To Collapsed Pipe: Police

Emergency repairs are underway. Police hope the roadway will be reopened by Friday morning.

Ramapo Valley Road, Route 202, will be closed at Franklin Turnpike until Monday due to a road cave in under the train trestle because a large storm drain pipe collapsed, police said.

Ramapo Valley Road is a county-owned thoroughfare. Bergen County authorities have contacted a private contractor to repair the damage, said Chief James Batelli.

The Mahwah Water Department and the Department of Public Works are at the site because there is a large water main near the damaged storm drain. They are closely monitoring what happens at the scene.

Batelli said there is no estimate on when the roadway will reopen, although he said he is hopeful to have it open by rush hour Friday morning. It will take approximately two hours to mark out all of the utilities in the area before work can begin. Motorists should expect delays in the area.
