RIDGEFIELD, NJ — Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson got a first-hand look into what it means to be a first responder during the coronavirus pandemic. He knows, Johnson says, because he and his family just recovered from the coronavirus.

Johnson, 48, decided to show his appreciation by sending a special gift to one New Jersey fire department.

On Sunday, Johnson posted a video to his Instagram page in which First Responders Children's Foundation President Jillian Crane read from a note he sent to the Ridgefield Fire Department's Engine Company No. 2.

"To the bad ass firefighters at Ridgefield Fire Department's Engine Company No. 2, thank you. During these tough times you've protected our families, our loved ones and our communities," she read.

Johnson sent many pairs of his new Under Armour sneaker, the Project Rock PR3, as "a small mahalo" to the department. "Hopefully these will help the hardest workers in the room kick ass even more," he wrote.

On Instagram, Johnson wrote: "Glad you (bad asses) got my note - Ridgefield Fire Department. A very small way of us saying, THANK YOU to you guys and all our first responders across our country. I see you and we’re grateful to you for always taking care of our families and communities. Stay safe, stay healthy. Love and respect - DJ."
