Two-Alarm Fire Kills 8 Cats In Bergen County Home: Police

A house fire in Bergen County on Tuesday killed eight pets and hospitalized another.

RIVER VALE, NJ — Eight cats were killed in a house fire in River Vale on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

River Vale police and other agencies responded to the fire at 242 Highland Ave. around 3:40 p.m., said Captain Josh Wisse.

A ninth cat was taken to the local animal hospital, he said.

No one else was home at the time of the blaze, and no one else was injured, he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.

Closter volunteer firefighters provided standby coverage for the town as River Vale firefighters fought the blaze, they noted.
