2010 Census: Manalapan's Population Grew by Over 16 Percent

The population increase accounts for over 36 percent of Monmouth County's total growth.

Recently, Monmouth County revealed statistics that show Manalapan’s population has grown by over 5,000 people, a 16.3 percent increase from 2000 to 2010.

Committeewoman Michelle Roth presented the new statistics during the Township Committee on March 9.

“We went from 33, 423 residents to 38, 872, or a 5,449 increase in population,” said Roth.

Deputy Mayor Ryan Green also spoke of the news during his report. In early 2010, Green helped form Manalapan’s Complete Count Committee which focused on increasing participation in the census.

“Unfortunately right now, we don’t have our compliance rate as of yet,” said Green. “The information that was released is part of an initial release of data from the U.S. Census Bureau.”

Green said that Manalapan is one of the few townships in Monmouth County to experience a population increase.

In early February, it was that Monmouth County’s population grew by 2.5 percent, gaining more than 15,000 residents over the last decade, but dropping behind Hudson County, as the fifth-largest county in the state.

According to the data, Manalapan’s increase in population accounted for over 36 percent of Monmouth County’s total growth.

“We all know Manalapan is a great place to live and apparently word got out since 2000 and people have been coming,” said Green.

Green thanked the Complete Count Committee for their efforts in 2010 and will make the census compliance rate known when that information is available.
