
Darren Gelber, a Manalapan resident and shareholder with the law firm of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer P.A., has been installed as President of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey (“ACDL-NJ”). Mr. Gelber was installed on May 23rd at the Pleasantdale Chateau, by the Honorable Barry T. Albin, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, and a former shareholder of Wilentz.
Formed in 1985, the ACDL-NJ has progressed to be the primary organized voice for the criminal defense bar in New Jersey. The Association was formed to encourage cooperation amongst criminal defense lawyers who are engaged in protecting individual rights guaranteed by the New Jersey and United States Constitutions.
Mr. Gelber concentrates his practice in the area of criminal law and civil rights law and serves as chair of the firm’s Criminal Law/Civil Rights Team. Designated by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney, he represents clients in all phases of criminal proceedings, including those charged with serious offenses in state and federal courts, those under investigation by law enforcement authorities or subpoenaed to appear before a state or federal grand jury. Mr. Gelber also represents clients with appellate matters. As a former prosecutor with experience in New York criminal practice, he has represented many New Jersey residents who have had encounters with the New York criminal justice system. He has spoken on a number of criminal justice topics both on television and in the print media, and is the author of a well-respected blog covering New Jersey criminal justice issues, jerseyjusticemonitor.com.
