Freehold Young Ladies’ Seminary 1845-1898, one of the most prestigious female educational institutes on the Eastern seaboard during the last half of the 19th century. 

This presentation will focus on such women as:

• Achsah - a brilliant and world renowned mathematician
• Annie - an influential suffragist and colleague of Margaret Sanger
• Emily Coe - creator of the American kindergarten system
• Adeline - a rare female in the field of 19th century journalism and the first woman to run for NJ State Senate
• And many more of the pioneering women of FYLS

About Bernadette Rogoff: Bernadette Rogoff has served as Director of Collections at Monmouth County Historical Association since 1992. She has researched, designed, and produced more than 45 exhibitions, covering topics from the American Revolution to 20th-century industry. A recognized authority on 18th- and 19th-century textiles, historic clothing, and the artist Micah Williams, she has secured grants from organizations including the New Jersey Historic Trust, New Jersey Historical Commission, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Bernadette lectures widely at institutions such as Colonial Williamsburg, the American Museum of Folk Art, and Princeton University Art Museum, and is a hands-on historian who demonstrates traditional skills like spinning, weaving, and hearth cooking.
