CPR certification for $19.99
Recently, First Aid & CPR, LLC received a call and saw an ad on the internet for CPR training for $19.99. We explained to the individual that CPR cannot be done online as you cannot perform your CPR skills or use an AED (defibrillator). These companies charge small prices enticing people to sign up, watch a video and take an online exam. They then send them a card. Unfortunately, the certification is not accepted by any state or municipal governments, schools or most workplaces. I explained to the individual, that the cost of CPR/AED training normally is about $40.00 and up. When entered into the classroom, the individual will have their own manikin to practice on, an AED to use during the session and get the training in treating a choking victim. HOW CAN YOU LEARN THAT FROM A VIDEO AND NOT HAVE ANY MISTAKES CORRECTED?
Training is through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, National Safety Council or American Safety & Health Institute. These are the organizations that are accepted by all states and follow the ECC (Emergency Cardiovascular Care) guidelines.
Would you want someone with online training to perform CPR on a friend or family member? Would you feel comfortable taking an online course with no hands-on practice?
What is even more preposterous is that the individual that contacted us said that his town does not require CPR/AED or First Aid training for the coaches and staff of the organized leagues. I guess it is towns like that that would accept online training.
With states making it mandatory for teachers, high school students, people in the workplace and other professionals to be CPR/AED certified, why would anyone think an online course would teach them how to do CPR?
