Biotechnology High School Freshman Selected for Unique Science Writing Program

Akansha Khurana of Manalapan, NJ is one of 22 students from around the country selected to participate in curiousYOUNGwriters (cYw), a program that trains high school students to write engaging, easy-to-understand stories about important but complex science topics.

cYw, called “revolutionary” and “the link between really cool science and the general public,” brings together teams of students who work closely with professional science and communications mentors throughout the year to hone skills in researching, writing, editing, creating supportive graphics and publicizing their stories. Akansha, age 14 will be attending cYw’s kick-off Communications Forum at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ, on June 6.

“By training high school students to be clear thinkers and better communicators, cYw is beginning to address the next generation’s pressing need to understand complex science and technology that will affect their personal health and well-being, as well as that of the world around them,” said Jayne Mackta of Bradley Beach, cYw founder and Creative Director. “We are thrilled to have Akansha as part of this innovative collaborative program.”

“Science is everywhere. It’s in the walls, it’s in the sky, it’s in our hands. People don’t realize that science is involved in almost every aspect of our lives and that is why it’s important to convey just how much science actually impacts us”, said Akansha Khurana.
