Drunk Driver Goes Wrong Way On Rt. 9, Manalapan Police Say

An Edison woman was driving the wrong way on Rt. 9 north at Gordons Corner Road last Thursday after midnight, police said.

MANALAPAN, NJ — A woman who was allegedly drunk drove the wrong down Rt. 9 in Manalapan Township last week, police say.

At approximately 12:16 a.m. last Thursday, July 20, Patrolman Jared Coupland responded to Rt. 9 north and Gordons Corner Road for a call about a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on U.S. 9.

The car was located and stopped in the parking lot of Pantry 1. The driver, Theresa Yakowenko, 53, of Edison and employed as a teacher, was driving while intoxicated, police said. She was placed under arrest and transported to Manalapan Township police headquarters where she was processed and released with a future court date.

Shoplifting
On Friday, July 21 at 3:02 p.m., patrols responded to Wegman’s for a shoplifter fleeing on foot. Patrols responded to the area and were unable to locate the accused subject. Loss-prevention employees advised an unknown black male subject exited the store without rendering payment for $828.92 of merchandise. The merchandise was retrieved by store personnel in the parking lot. This case is pending investigation and was handled by Patrolman Joseph DeFilippis.

Criminal Mischief
On Friday, July 21 at 3:28 p.m., patrols responded to King Court for criminal mischief to a residence. It was discovered that an unknown person(s) used a rock to break a rear window to a residence; however, no entry was gained. Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to contact the Manalapan Township Police Department. Patrolman Brian Schank handled the incident.
