Celebrate the 50th Anniversary Season of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey:
This was Pierre Beaumarchais' second play and was a sequel to his first, The Barber of Seville. Both plays became well-known operas, with The Marriage of Figaro becoing one of Mozart's best known operas.
Figaro, the count's whip-smart valet, is engaged to marry Suzanne, the countess's comely maid and fellow employee of the Count. In the three years since Figaro helped forge the marriage of the Count and Rosine (as told in The Barber of Seville), the Count has grown bored with Rosine and is taking notice of Suzanne. Figaro creates a scheme to thwart his efforts and teach everyone a lesson!
Performed by the Next Stage Ensemble, a division of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's Summer Professional Training Program, created to foster the work of early career actors and to train them in ensemble-based performance techniques.
