The Department performs various types of field inspections and investigations ensuring that residents and commercial establishments are in compliance with municipal ordinances.

These may entail notices being sent to the party notifying them of the ordinance and a time frame of required compliance.

Additionally, this office coordinates joint inspections with other public agencies, such as state, county and municipal departments. For example, inspections are conducted to ascertain if the exterior of residential and commercial premises are being maintained in good condition, as per the municipal residential/commercial maintenance code.

In the code enforcement/zoning we respond to complaints received by individual entities and accordingly, seek compliance of such, either by telephone, meetings, on site visits or written notice. If compliance is not achieved, it may become necessary to initiate legal action, by means of summonses being issued for municipal court.

This office also reviews and issues development permits for pools, fences, sheds and other structural alterations and additions. Any street excavation permits are also applied for, through this department.

Lastly, this department reviews all uses for commercial/residential properties. If necessary, referral is made to the zoning board of adjustment for a various request.
