Jackson Man Charged With Fatal Shooting Of Manalapan Man

A Jackson man has been arrested and charged for the shooting death of another man in Manalapan on Saturday night.

MANALAPAN, NJ — A Jackson man has been arrested and charged for the shooting death of another man in Manalapan on Saturday night, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni.

Gerard Grimes Jr., 23, of Jackson, is facing charges of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Narciso Rodriguez-Corona, 43, of Manalapan. Grimes is also charged with the second degree crimes of burglary and weapons charges.

As Patch initially reported, at approximately 9:34 p.m. this past Saturday, Oct. 5 Manalapan police received a call regarding a fight at 25 Fawn Run in Manalapan. Several minutes later, the department received another call for a confirmed shooting victim. Manalapan police responded and discovered Rodriguez-Corona suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

On Saturday night, police reported that an active criminal investigation was going on in the area of Pension Road and Union Hill Road in Manalapan.

The investigation has revealed that Grimes came to the Manalapan home armed with a handgun. He tried to enter the home while some of his friends remained outside. People inside the home tried get from entering and he briefly left the home. Shortly thereafter, a second encounter occurred nearby, where he ultimately shot the victim and then fled the area, police said.

Police were quickly dispatched to the area, and encountered the victim who was suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Grimes was found in the backyard of a nearby home.

A neighbor told News12 he heard several shots fired in Manalapan, prompting a large police presence in the area. A section of road was blocked off in front of 25 Fawn Run, the report said. The neighbor, who lives on Pension Road, told News12 he heard several gunshots between 9:20 p.m. and 9:40 p.m., and then saw six police squad cars as well as a helicopter hovering over the area for 20 minutes.

He is currently being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) in Freehold Township.
