MANALAPAN, NJ - Are those loud noises the sound of Duck Hunting season? Did Santa crash-land in New Jersey a bit early this year? Manalapan Township took to social media on Sunday to address loud explosive sounds from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst that are expected to be heard in the area this month.

“Hearing loud explosions? Do not worry, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is conducting explosives training today,” the township wrote in a social media post on Sunday. The post warns residents to “prepare for more noise” between Nov. 19 and Nov. 23.

A message from the Manalapan Police

The base does not publish specifics of what training is happening or what organization is training, but in the past the loudest noise has come when units are training with mortars.

Cloud cover can affect how loud and how far the noise carries, base officials have said.

October marked a similar stretch of noise during the middle of the month, and from the likes of this month’s noise schedule, a similar pattern could follow suit this week. The first peak of the explosive sounds extended between Nov. 12 and 15.
