Manalapan Police Blotter, Nov. 6 - Nov. 12

A 38-year-old Manalapan woman was charged with selling heroin out of an Oak Knoll home, police said, and more:

MANALAPAN, NJ — Released by Manalapan police, and unedited by Patch, here are all the incidents and arrests in Manalapan Township from Nov. 6 through Nov. 12:

Warrant Arrest

On Friday, November 10, 2017, at approximately 9:21pm, Patrolman Douglas Zike and Patrolman Christopher Makwinski responded to the New Jersey State Police Hamilton Barracks in reference to an individual with an active warrant, in the amount of $626.00, out of the Manalapan Township Municipal Court in their custody. Kangzail Lester, a 24-year-old, single, Trenton residence, who is employed as a warehouse worker, was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of bail. Patrolman Douglas Zike handled the arrest.

Credit Card Fraud / Theft

On Friday, November 10, 2017, at approximately 9:05 pm, a 64-year-old Manalapan resident reported that his credit card was used fraudulently. An unknown actor charged $2,743.47 to the credit card at the Best Buy store located on Rt. 9 in Manalapan. Patrolman Adam Sosnowski took the report, which is pending further investigation.

Fraud (KNOWN PHONE SCAM)

On Friday, November 10, 2017, at approximately 8:15 pm, an 82-year old Manalapan resident reported that at 2:00 pm on this date he received a phone call on his cell phone indicating that a family member had been arrested and was in need of bail money in Pennsylvania. The victim subsequently sent $2,350.00 via Western Union to the suspect. It was alter determined that the victim’s family member was not in jail, but was home.
Residents are urged to be aware of this type of ongoing phone scam and to not send money regarding these types of incidents. Please contact the police department if someone attempts to obtain money from you regarding a jailed family member. Patrolman Adam Sosnowski handled the report.

Harassment

On Friday, November 10, 2017, at approximately 1:57 pm, a 42-year-old Manalapan resident reported that between January of 2017 and November 10, 2017 his family has received multiple harassing hand written letters from a known subject. The victim was informed of the complaint procedures with the Manalapan Township Municipal Court. Patrolman Joseph DeFilippis handled the report.

Warrant Arrest

On Friday, November 10, 2017, at approximately 12:34 pm, Ptl. Kyle Earley conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2016 Honda Accord on Taylors Mills Road near Route 9 in Manalapan, NJ. The driver, Michael Coogan, a 37-year-old, single, male, Spotswood, NJ resident and employed as a cashier, was found to have two traffic warrants out of Spotswood Municipal Court for his arrest totaling $614.00 . Mr. Coogan was arrested and transported to headquarters where he was processed then released after posting full bail. Mr. Coogan was issued two summonses and given a new court date in Spotswood.

Theft of Property

On Friday, November 10, 2017, at approximately 8:46am, a 42-year-old resident of Manalapan, reported his Murray mountain bicycle valued at $30.00 was stolen from his residence. This incident occurred sometime between October 27, 2017 and November 10, 2017. This incident was handled by Patrolman Joseph DeFilippis.

Warrant Arrest

On Thursday, November 9, 2017, at approximately 10:05 am, Patrolman Bart Mattaliano conducted a motor vehicle stop on Union Hill Road for a motor vehicle violation. The driver, identified as Brenden Callaghan, a 28-year-old, married, male, resident of Brooklyn, NY, who is employed as a driver, was found to have a warrant issued for his arrest by the Freehold Township Municipal Court in the amount of $164.00. Mr. Brenden was placed under arrest and transported to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and released after posting bail.

Burglary / Criminal Mischief

On Thursday, November 9, 2017, at approximately 7:00 am, an employee of a business located on Route 9 South reported that sometime between 7:30 pm on November 7, 2017 and 5:15 am on November 8, 2017, an unknown actor(s) pried the rear exterior door knob in an attempt to gain access to the building. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Manalapan Police Department at (732)446-4300. Patrolman Matthew Mattia handled the report.

Warrant Arrest

On Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at approximately 9:37 pm, Patrolman Christopher Makwinski conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 9 for a traffic violation. Shannon Miller, a 37-year-old, unemployed, separated, female, resident of Parlin, was found to have warrants issued for her arrest by the Rahway Municipal Court in the amount of $500.00, the Sayreville Municipal Court in the amount of $600.00, and the Old Bridge Municipal Court in the amounts of $500.00 and $800.00. Ms. Miller was also found to have warrants issued by the Monmouth and Middlesex Superior Courts with no bail. She was placed under arrest and transported to Manalapan Township Police Department where she was processed and transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.

Possession of Heroin; Possession of Less Than 50 Grams of Marijuana; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at approximately 4:08 pm, RJ J. Beckford, a 20-year-old, unmarried, unemployed, resident of Trenton, NJ, and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested in the parking lot of the CVS store, located at 120 Woodward Road in Manalapan. Mr. Beckford was placed under arrest and transported to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and released after being issued a summons for Possession of Less Than 50 Grams of Marijuana. The 17-year-old juvenile was also placed under arrest for Possession of Heroin, Possession of Less Than 50 Grams of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The juvenile was transported to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and released to a guardian. Detective Kenneth Mikulik led the investigation with the assistance of Detective Jared Aronson, Patrolman Kyle Earley and Patrolman Christopher Oleksy.

Simple Assault

On Wednesday, November 08, 2017, at approximately 7:01 am, Patrolman Seth Kreizman responded to the Marianne Manor, located at 327 Route 33 in Manalapan for a report of an assault. A 63-year-old Manalapan resident reported being assaulted by a 43-year-old Manalapan resident. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident, which is pending the signing of complaints with the Manalapan Township Municipal Court. Patrolman Kreizman took the report.

Burglary, Theft of Property, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Trespass

On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at approximately 7:42 am, an employee of Case Construction, located at 212 Monmouth Road in Manalapan, reported that during the overnight hours an unknown actor(s) damaged a fence and entered the property. Once on the property, a construction vehicle was damaged and had parts removed from it. The total value of the stolen / damaged property was reported to be $2,169.77. Patrolman Kevin Ruditsky handled the report, which is pending further investigation.

Warrant Arrest
On Monday, November 6, 2017, at 7:15 pm, Edward Cobb, a 53-year-old, single male, employed as construction laborer, who resides in Asbury Park, NJ, was arrested on an outstanding Monmouth County Superior Court warrant for Non-payment of Child Support. Cobb was processed then transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in lieu of bail. Patrolman Dennis O’Brien handled the arrest.

Warrant Arrest

On Monday, November 6, 2017, at 1:29 pm, Baljeet Brar, a 53-year-old, married, self-employed, resident of Manalapan, turned himself in at Manalapan Township Police Headquarters regarding a warrant that was issued for his arrest by the Manalapan Township Municipal Court in the amount of $1,000.00. Mr. Baljeet was processed and released after posting bail. Patrolman Ross Dessel handled the arrest.

Criminal Mischief

On Monday, November 6 2017, at approximately 12:43 pm, Patrolman Kevin Ruditsky responded to the Milford Brook School, located on Globar Terrace in Manalapan, for a report of criminal mischief. An unknown actor(s) spray painted the letters “YBM” in yellow and black paint sometime between Friday, November 3, 2017 and Monday, November 6, 2017 on a fence, storage container, and a slide. This case is pending investigation.

17MDistribution / Possession of Heroin; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

On Wednesday, November 1, 2017, a narcotic investigation conducted by Detectives and Patrol Officers from the Manalapan Township Police Department, as well as, the New Jersey State Police “Troop C” Detective Operation Group, resulted in the arrest of Cortney Appelbaum, a 38-year-old, unmarried, unemployed, female, resident of Manalapan. Ms. Appelbaum was subsequently located at an Oak Knoll residence where she was placed under arrest and charged with Distribution of Heroin, Distribution of a Controlled and Dangerous Substance within a School Zone and Park Zone, Possession of Heroin, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Ms. Appelbaum was transported to the Manalapan Township Police Department where she was processed and turned over to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending a bail hearing. Detective Kenneth Mikulik was the assigned case officer.
