Manalapan Police Dog Finds Missing Teen

On the job for less than a week, and K9 Grim already scent tracked a missing teen through the woods.

Manalapan, NJ - He’s been with the department for less than a week, and already K9 Grim helped a Manalapan family.

At 5:20 p.m. Thursday, Patrolman Adam Sosnowski, along with Grim, the township’s new police dog, responded to 520 Rt. 9 North for a report of a missing teenager.

The teen’s mother told the officer she and her 15-year-old son got into an argument, and he stayed behind in the car while she went into a store.

However, when she got back to her car, the boy was gone. Sosnowski directed the police dog to track the teen, and the animal did: Grim followed the teen’s scent trail through a wooded area about a quarter of a mile away. While the teen was not ultimately located in the woods, the dog tracked him to a parking lot along Rt. 9 north.

The boy was uninjured and reunited with his parents.

What makes the story even more incredible is K9 Grim has only been on the Manalapan police force for less than a week. In fact, the 17-month-old male German Shepherd, bred in the Czech Republic, just graduated from training academy on Dec. 11.

Grim is Manalapan’s third K9 in service. He is currently the only K9 the department has.

What‘s next for Patrolman Sosnowski and his partner? They will be going to advanced narcotics detection training in early 2016, police tell Patch.

Way to go, Grim and Officer Sosnowski!
