The Max Challenge of Manalapan Raises $25,000 for SUDC

Community effort shatters fundraising goal

This spring marked the third Annual Max Day of Giving where members of THE MAX Challenge of Manalapan and the community came together to support a cause, spread awareness, and ultimately make the world a better place. While the Annual Day of Giving is national, organization-wide event, the Manalapan Max Challenge location focused on SUDC – Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood - with a community fundraising event, sweat-a-thon, and basket auction. Together with the community, The Max Challenge of Manalapan raised $25,000, exceeding its fundraising goal by more than 50 percent. On May 21, The Max Challenge, joined by Manalapan Mayor Jack McNaboe and Deputy Mayor Susan Cohen, presented the SUDC organization with a check and thanked event organizers and community members for participating in its success.

“One of our members knew Julianne Jergens, member of The Max Challenge of Staten Island, and that she lost her two-year old daughter Lily, whose death was categorized as SUDC,” said owner of The Max Challenge of Manalapan Maureen Bruno. “We knew we had to come together as a community to raise awareness and bring support to this organization that helps families deal with the unexplainable.”

Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood is the sudden and unexpected death of a child 12 months and older which remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation is conducted. It is a category of death and is unpredictable. SUDC is not federally funded, and as such, relies on communities and individuals to raise awareness and funds to support families impacted by SUDC.
