Sneaker Sale Goes Wrong in Manalapan Wawa Parking Lot

A Manalapan man said he was given fake money when he tried to sell a pair of sneakers in the Wawa parking lot.

MANALAPAN, NJ - A sneaker sale went awry last Friday in the parking lot of the Manalapan Wawa, when a Manalapan man said he was robbed and given fake money over a pair of sneakers. In an unrelated incident, a Highlands resident was robbed at gunpoint last week when he invited strangers to his home in a sale they had arranged on Craigslist.

The 27-year-old white male Manalapan resident said he arranged to meet another man in the parking lot of the Wawa on Union Hill Road at 11:40 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, to sell him a pair of sneakers. The would-be buyer passed him several counterfeit $50 bills, took the sneakers and then left the area, the Manalapan resident told police. The suspect drove off towards Rt. 9 North in an older model red Mercury Grand Marquis with a tan roof.

The man is described as a thin black male in his mid 20’s wearing a black hat, black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
