N.J. Resident Tries To Sell On Craigslist, Gets Robbed At Gunpoint Instead, Escapes

Incredibly, the resident was able to escape the situation by crawling out through a window, police said.

A New Jersey resident was robbed late Monday afternoon in their home, after they tried to sell an item on Craigslist but were instead held up at gunpoint by the would-be buyer, Highlands police said Tuesday afternoon. Incredibly, the resident was able to escape the situation by crawling out through a window, police said.

The incident happened at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Monday: Earlier, the resident had posted an item for sale on Craigslist. They made arrangements to meet the buyer, and do the exchange for cash at their home. After the transaction, the actor left, but returned moments later with another person. Brandishing a handgun, they forced the resident into a room and demanded money. After a few minutes the victim was able to escape through a window and fled to a neighbor’s house and called the police. The victim was treated at the scene by the Highlands First Aid Squad for minor injuries incurred during the escape.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Highlands Detective George Ruth (732) 872-1158. Many towns now have meeting places at the local police station for those who sell things online.
