Twp. Committee Reorganization Meeting to be Held Jan. 2

At the last meeting of the Manalapan Township Committee for 2011, the board discussed the first meeting of 2012. It was decided that the Reorganization Meeting of the Township Committee will be held on Monday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. in the courtroom of the.

An issue arose over who would chair the meeting, however. Since it is a reorganization meeting and Mayor Andrew Lucas’ term as mayor expires on Dec. 31, the seat is vacant.

Committeewoman Michelle Roth, , made a motion that Jordan Maskowitz chair the Reorganization meeting. Maskowitz responded by making a motion that Deputy Mayor Ryan Green chair the meeting.

No Committee member seconded Roth’s motion so it disappeared, but Green seconded Maskowitz’s motion. On the vote, Committeeman Donald Holland voted no, Mayor Lucas abstained, and Green, Roth, and Maskowitz voted yes; therefore, the motion passed and Green will chair the Reorganization meeting.

The Manalapan Township Committee is comprised of five members who are elected for three year terms. At the Reorganization Meeting the Township Committee decides who will serve as Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the year.
