Belmar, Eyeing Another Storm, Pumping Lakes Again

Belmar continues to pump out both lakes in preparation for the nor'easter coming Tuesday night, officials said.

Meanwhile, power has been restored to 15 percent of the town and crews are still working.

Any residents with water in their basement should be mindful of their electric panel, the borough says.

"Please make sure the break panel is shut off," a borough release says. 

The borough’s Hurricane Relief Distribution Center remains open and in need of certain items to assist residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

The distribution center is at the Belmar Arts Council Building, 608 River Road (at Seventh Avenue), Belmar. Relief aid is now being deployed door-to-door to residents.

Specific items needed are:

·         Work Gloves & Latex Gloves

·         Flashlights

·         Batteries

·         Bleach and other Cleaning Products

·         Rakes

·         Contractor Bags

·         Packing Tape

·         Markers (Sharpie-type)

·         Paper Towels

·         Rags

·         Sponges

·         Mops & Buckets

 
“We are deeply grateful to those who have so selflessly donated to our recovery efforts here in Belmar,” Mayor Matt Doherty said in a release.  “We’ve received an outpouring of support from people all over the world through contributions to our website, Belmar.com, as well as donations to our Relief Center.  With the help of our local, state and federal officials, the generosity of our friends and neighbors and the strength and resolve of our residents, Belmar will recover, repair, and rebuild.”

Belmar residents in need of care and supplies should report to the Borough Hall gymnasium at 601 Main Street for free food, water, clothing, care kits and cell phone charging stations.  The gymnasium is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Generous donations of clothes have now fulfilled our clothing needs, the list above represents the items most in need at this time.

Professional food service vendors who wish to volunteer on-site outdoor cooking operations and food service delivery, should contact April Claudio at 732-681-3700.
