Cloudy skies, thunderstorms on the way later.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly cloudy skies today with showers and thunderstorms likely.

The highs will be in the mid-80s. Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour. The lightning threat is high, which means thunderstorms are likely or expected.

The surf will be around three feet, with east swells of two feet. The water temperature is 76 degrees. There's a moderate risk of rip currents, which means wind or wave conditions can support stronger or more frequent currents. Swim only in guarded areas and make sure you always have a flotation device with you while in the water. Discuss possible surf zone hazards with the guards.

The UV index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high, so slather on the sunscreen.

High tide at Belmar is expected at 10:36 a.m. Low tide will roll in at 4:27 p.m, followed by another high tide at 10:44 p.m.
