Belmar Mayor Matthew J. Doherty announced today that Former Council President Claire Deicke has been selected as the 2014 Belmar Citizen of the Year.
“Claire does an amazing amount for the Belmar Community and her service is a true labor of love.”
Mrs. Deicke stated, “We have many people here in Belmar who would certainly qualify for this honor-so to be selected from among them is very special for me. I particularly enjoyed serving our residents during my two terms in office. This is a great town with great leadership-leaders who care first and foremost about our residents.”

Is an active member of the Belmar Woman’s Club since 1999 serving as their president from 2004 – 2006 and chairing the social services and communication committees throughout the years.

Serves on the Strategic Planning Committee at Belmar Elementary School where she was a teacher for 22 years.
Created and taught English classes for Spanish-Speaking residents of Belmar.
Served on the Belmar Board of Education for 6 years.
Coordinated and assisted with the memories books published by The Historical Society-both Memories Book I and Memories Book 2-just published and released to the public.
Was elected to the Belmar Council in 2007 and has worked tirelessly for the betterment of Belmar residents, serving as Chair of the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign, Chair of the ADA Committee, Council President, and Member of the Harbor Commission. And she created health fairs as part of Mayor’s Wellness Campaign.
She instituted groundbreaking and vital programming for the residents of Belmar including Belmar Cares, a support group for breast cancer survivors, and Choose Your Cover, a skin cancer prevention program.
Served tirelessly to protect and ensure the safety and recovery of Belmar residents in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the largest natural disaster to befall Belmar.
