Former Wall BOE President Hit By Car In Manasquan

​A former Wall Township Board of Education president was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle as she was crossing South Street

A former Wall Township Board of Education president was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle as she was crossing South Street in Manasquan last week, according to reports.

Eva Applegate, 80, of Racquet Road in Wall was transported by the Manasquan First Aid Squad to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune were she was listed in critical condition, Police Chief Michael Bauer told The Coast Star.

The driver, Shirley Hurley, 70, of Manasquan, was driving a 2007 Toyota and had stopped at the stop sign on Broad Street before turning right onto Main Street where Hurley was waiting for traffic, according to the publication.

In 2013, Applegate was tapped by the 9-member panel to become that year's president. Former board President John Tavis nominated Applegate for the presidency. There were no other nominations.

The vote to install Applegate was 8-1. Board member Donald Herbert cast the lone vote against.
