One year ago, few of us were on a computer or doing any type of work. We were still sifting through the mess and trying to figure what just happened.
A year later, certain areas are still a mess, but we have made a lot of progress.
We’re still here working hard and helping people put their homes and lives back together. It’s easy to forget, especially for those living inland, that there are still people living in motels or in their friends’ basements. Countless others still haven’t begun the rebuilding process, still figuring out their options for getting money, determining whether they can rebuild, and how to do it most efficiently.

We get phone calls and emails almost daily from homeowners who are just beginning the rebuilding process and who are looking for the right information. Contractors have taken on entirely new roles, acting as advisers and guiding people through the oft confusing process of financing, permitting, demolishing, raising, remediating, building, remodeling, and more.
Rebuild New Jersey, an online directory for local contractors, launched on March 1, 2013 as a hub for connecting homeowners and business owners with reliable, local contractors.

In just eight months, there are over 250 local builders, contractors, and related professional firms on the website, each with a custom profile with contact information, photos, and social links. The site benefits all contractors, and a good percentage have gotten work out of it. The site is especially valuable for contractors who do not otherwise have a web presence.
In fact, one of the contractors on the site, a demolition contractor in Ocean County, is going to be featured on ABC's 20/20 television show in November. The research team at ABC found an article this contractor had written on www.rebuildnewjersey.com and contacted him for an interview. Not only did they interview him, but they sent an entire film crew to one of his job sites and filmed his company demolishing a home last week. Needless to say, we're all very excited for him.
One year after Sandy, so many homeowners are still struggling with finding the right information and connecting to the people who can help them rebuild their homes. The New Jersey contractor directory provides relevant, up to date information and allows them to connect with contractors in dozens of different trades.
As we progress through the next several years of rebuilding, these connections will become more valuable.
Rebuild New Jersey is free for everyone to use, unlike other contractor directories that charge either the consumers or contractors. We look forward to another successful year of rebuilding our beautiful state and working as a community.
