Manasquan Bench Purchase Policy Under Review

Purchasing a personalized bench in Manasquan soon could become much easier.

The Borough Council on Monday decided the current policy governing who can get a bench — anyone who worked or volunteered for the borough for 10 years — was a bit too stringent. 

The governing body also waived the requirement for the Manasquan High School Class of 1963, and hopes to return to its next meeting with draft changes to the policy for a vote. 

Council President Ed Donovan said that the policy prevented many otherwise interested residents from purchasing benches, which cost $500 each. 

In fact, the waiting list for the next set of benches is completely empty, Donovan said. 

Councilwoman Marilyn Jacobson said she would like to see memorial trees also offered for sale to interested residents.
