Manasquan Officials: Voluntary Evacuations Suggested In Waterfront Areas

Anyone living in the borough's "Tier 1" area should consider leaving by tonight before storm worsens.

Manasquan officials are recommending that residents who live in flood-prone, non-elevated structures in the “Tier 1” zone considering evacuating to higher ground due to expected major flooding from the storm.

The suggested evacuation was issued at noon on Friday.

“Roads will become impassable Saturday due to blizzard conditions and coastal flooding, and the latest storm surge guidance continues to indicate the potential for widespread moderate to low-end major coastal flooding,” according to the borough website.

Officials are recommending that people who live in non-elevated structures, especially elderly and special needs residents shut off their utilities and take their vehicles and pets to higher ground until the flooding ends.

“Emergency services may not be able to access these areas for an extended period on Saturday,” the post states. “Given the forecasted blizzard conditions and potential for extensive power outages, even if your residence has been elevated, it is recommended that you leave until the flooding subsides mid-day Sunday.”
