Syringes Wash Up, Close Beach To Swimming At Jersey Shore
The beach has been closed to swimming until authorities re-evaluate the situation and decide it's safe, officials said.
MANASQUAN, NJ — Swimming has been shut down at the beach in Manasquan after more than 60 syringes washed up there on Saturday, officials said.
Officials did not say what time the syringes were seen on Saturday, but said the situation is being managed by the Manasquan Office of Emergency Management, the Monmouth County Health Department and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
The safety of the water will be re-evaluated early Sunday, after two high tide cycles, Manasquan OEM officials said.

An update will be issued prior to beach opening on Sunday, they said.
"Please follow all lifeguard directives," officials said.

Environmental emergencies, chemical spills, illegal dumping, odor complaints, and wildlife concerns should be reported to Manasquan Police at 732-223-1000 and NJDEP at 1-877-WARN-DEP.
