Manasquan Starts Program Encouraging Crime Surveillance Video Use

The Manasquan Police Department is initiating a new program.

The Manasquan Police Department is initiating a new program that encourages residents and businesses to register their privately owned home or business video surveillance system, including the popular doorbell camera systems.

The department said it recognizes that crimes can be committed at any place or time and that video surveillance systems may capture footage that could help solve crimes in our community.

"During a criminal investigation, our officers are often unaware of the many residences and businesses that have surveillance systems who might have this footage," the police said.

Law enforcement says the program does not give police the ability to tap into any home or business surveillance feeds. Participation in this program is 100 percent voluntary and personal information will be kept confidential and not for public dissemination, police said.

Only law enforcement personnel will view the surveillance footage.
