Random Notes and This Week’s Closed Sales

Since this week has had a lot of serious issues for many of us, I thought it might be good to have a little fun with some random facts.

• Did you share a room when you were growing up? If you watch HGTV you might think that every kid now has a room the size of a master bedroom decorated to the nine’s.  But according to recent profile data, roughly a third of homes purchased by buyers with three children under the age of 18 had 3 or fewer bedrooms. Since most likely one of these bedrooms is used by the adult(s) in the household, roughly a third of 3-child purchasers would likely have kids sharing a room.  Among households with 4 or more children under 18, nearly seven in ten 4-children households lived in a 4-bedroom or smaller home; again since adults would use one room, sharing among some of the children would be indicated.

 • This one is a little scary, though probably not too big a concern in this area.  Builders are increasingly retaining the mineral rights to homes they sell, according to a recent investigation by Reuters of county property records in 25 states. That means that while buyers own their homes from the ground up, the builders lay claim to what's beneath the home, such as oil, natural gas, water, or other natural resources. Homeowners are often unaware that builders have retained mineral rights and are displeased when they learn that they don’t own the ground under their feet, Reuters reports. In most states, sellers aren’t legally required to disclose to homebuyers whether they are losing the mineral rights to a property. Sometimes builders may flag it in sales contracts or deeds, but not all buyers review the paperwork closely. Concerned? Talk to your Attorney before closing.

• Wow, I didn’t think she was real! Millions of people have spoken with Apple’s Siri, but until now no one knew that her real name is Susan Bennett. No one still knows that for sure, and Apple won’t confirm it, but CNN found audio forensic experts that back up the Atlanta-based voice actress’s claims.  On top of her identity, Bennett also revealed one reason why Siri sounds so snippy:  “There are some people that just can read hour upon hour upon hour, and it’s not a problem. For me, I get extremely bored … So I just take breaks. That’s one of the reasons why Siri might sometimes sound like she has a bit of an attitude. Those sounds might have been recorded the last 15 minutes of those four hours.”
