The San Gennaro Festival In Belmar on Saturday was cancelled as the seashore town took other precautions in the wake of the incident, which happened just as a charity 5K race was about to start.

Belmar said it was inspecting garbage cans as the New York City Police Department - where 29 people were hurt in a separate explosion Saturday night - said it was closely monitoring the incident.

The Festival of the Sea in Point Pleasant Beach was cancelled following the incident.

The boardwalk area in Seaside Park was evacuated - and a lockdown was in place - because of an explosion this weekend as authorities said they were continuing to search for possible suspects.

The explosion involved at least one pipe bomb in a trash can at the time a Semper Five 5K race event - with 3,000 participants, many of them members of the armed services - was to be held for the U.S. Marines, according to authorities. The race was cancelled.

Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, said he believes the incident was deliberate that may have targeted Marines participating in the event. But he declined to say whether he felt it was a terror attack.
