Seton Hall Historian Dr. Alan Delozier to Speak at Irish American Society Event
The story of America's founding is incomplete without recognizing the early contributions of Irish immigrants and Irish Americans.

In honor of the 250th anniversary of our nation, the Irish American Society of the Jersey Shore is pleased to present a talk on Monday, July 13, entitled “Irish & New Jersey in the American Revolution – An Introduction” by Dr. Alan Delozier, noted historian and author.
Delozier, who holds a Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) in Irish Studies from Drew University and a Master of Arts (MA) in History from Villanova University, is Humanities Librarian at Seton Hall University. He has authored numerous articles and presentations on Irish-American history, New Jersey history, and Catholic heritage. He is also State Historian for the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) New Jersey.
While many Americans are familiar with the waves of Irish immigration during the nineteenth century, Delozier will share how Irish influence on American society began much earlier. He will discuss the conditions in Ireland in the 17th and 18th centuries that led to mass migration to the U.S., underscoring the early Irish settlements in New Jersey and the significant contributions the Irish made to the growth of the area. Particular focus will be given to how the example and bravery of the Irish had an impact on the ultimate American victory to end the Revolutionary War and a bearing on the Declaration of Independence.

Through the stories of specific individuals, communities, battles, and other attributes of the Irish, Delozier will discuss how their impact shaped post-conflict America, from that period up to the present day. He will also discuss genealogy and how an individual can see how their ancestors may have contributed to liberty at the time.
"The story of America's founding is incomplete without recognizing the early contributions of Irish immigrants and Irish Americans," said Delozier. "Their commitment to liberty, public service, faith, and community helped leave a lasting imprint on the development of the nation."
