All About Art at MossRehab (Elkins Park), the annual international juried exhibition and sale of art and fine crafts by artists with disabilities, opened on April 30 and will run until July 1. This free and open to the public exhibition features the creative work of Whiting’s own Anthony Zaremba. Anthony’s perseverance of his artistic passion in the face of multiple sclerosis is truly an inspiration.
Anthony is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Diagnosed in 1984 with multiple sclerosis, he returned to art when the disease progressed and forced him to retire from a career as a dental technician. With the fine motor skills in his right hand significantly compromised, he had to retrain himself to paint with his left hand. In 2003, Zaremba was named a “Champion of Courage” by Berlex Pharmaceuticals and received a grant that he designated for the creation of a wheelchair-accessible community garden in his native Brooklyn. In 2006, his work was juried into the VSA Arts Transformation Exhibition at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Zaremba is one of 24 people featured in the book People with MS, with the Courage to Give. ‘I love art, classical music and I am glad I was given the time to follow my passion….my love of art.’
The exhibition showcases works by 86 artists and fine craft artisans. In addition to local artists, there are exhibitors from throughout the United States, Canada and France. Mediums include oil and watercolor painting, photography, sculpture, needlepoint and jewelry. Prices range from $12 to $3,400, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the MossRehab Diagnostic Laboratories.
