Bus Drivers Get A Holiday Thank You From Manchester Schools

As districts all over struggle with driver shortages, Manchester made sure to let its drivers know they are appreciated.

MANCHESTER, NJ — They deliver nearly 3,000 students to and from school and to activities daily. And the Manchester Township Schools made sure its bus drivers know how much they are appreciated.

Just before winter break, the district's drivers were presented with treats, along with thank you cards handmade by students, to emphasize how much they are appreciated.

The district has grappled with driver shortages, but there has been cooperation and coordination between the drivers, the district's transportation supervisor and dispatchers to ensure the students safely get to where they need to go, school officials said.

The celebration just before the holidays started at the district's Transportation Depot, where the drivers' room was filled with breakfast treats to welcome them before and after their morning runs.

In the afternoon, drivers received coffee, hot chocolate, and treats at Manchester Township Middle School's pick-up, along with cards for each driver that had a handwritten note of appreciation from the middle school students they transport each day.

The district is seeking full-time bus drivers. The job includes health benefits, a pension, sick time, personal time, overtime opportunities and time off that follows the school vacation calendar aligning to the dates/times the students are also out of school.
