Champion Manchester Bowlers Honored By School Board

MANCHESTER, NJ -- Kids may come and go, but one thing that has remained constant is the dominance of Manchester Township High School's bowling teams.

The girls team, led by coach Mike McCrae, has been especially dominant: the Hawks' girls captured their 10th straight New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association South Jersey Group II sectional championship and their eighth straight NJSIAA Group II crown. Their Group II victory advanced the Hawks to the state Tournament of Champions, where they placed third behind state powers and fellow Ocean County representatives Brick Township (the Dragons took the TOC championship) and Brick Memorial.

The girls also were undefeated in Shore Conference Class B South in winning that divisional title, and places second at the Shore Conference Tournament, McCrae said.

The boys, led by coach Bryan Vargas, won the NJSIAA South Jersey Group II sectional title and Class B South, also going undefeated in the division.

“It’s just amazing what they accomplish every year but it’s easy to forget that this is a new team and it’s not automatic," Manchester Superintendent David Trethaway said at Wednesday's Board of Education meeting, where the teams were honored for their accomplishments. "They earned it. This is a great program with great coaches.”

The teams received certificates and sweatshirts commemorating their achievements, as well as the board's accolades.

The members of the girls team are Bayleigh Adams, Theresa Bedaro, Kayla Maree Bermudez, Dezarae Dunnell, Abigail Hulse, Brianna Olsen, Victoria Smith, Mackenzie Weber, Kimberly Wolf, and Margaret Wood.

The members of the boys team are Charles Kremer, Michael Martinez, Nicholas McGinley, Joseph Raimondi, Robert Shaw, David Smith, Michael Sullivan, Justin Villano, Ethan Wesler, and Thomas Wolf.
