Dislodged Trailer Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash In Manchester

Three cars crashed and one driver was seriously injured on Rte. 530 after a utility trailer dislodged from a Dodge Ram.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Three people were involved in a multi-vehicle collision that resulted from a dislodged utility trailer, Manchester Township Police report.

According to a Manchester Township investigation, a utility trailer dislodged from the hitch of a Dodge Ram traveling east on Route 530 at around 4 p.m. Wednesday. A Toyota Corolla traveling west collided head-on with the dislodged trailer, police said. The driver, 80-year-old Marylou Bierwith of Whiting, was initially trapped in her car, but was extricated from and transported to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center by a medevac helicopter. Because Bierwith was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and multiple airbags were deployed, police say she is listed in serious but stable condition.

Police say that a 2013 Buick was also traveling east on Rte. 530 at the time the Toyota crashed into the trailer. The Buick quickly decelerated, causing a 2006 Acura to crash into its rear. All drivers were wearing their seatbelts, police said. The Buick driver, 71-year-old Renette Jackson of Whiting, complained of pain, but refused medical treatment.
