Joint Base Hosting Mortar Training This Weekend
The base is alerting neighbors to the potential for noise in surrounding communities.

Ocean County residents who heard or felt the rumbling at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst last weekend are getting an early heads up: a battalion of U.S. Marines will be training at the base again this coming Sunday, Feb. 28.
The training on Sunday will run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. as the 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines will be conducting live fire mortar training, the base announced on its Facebook page.
The announcement said the mortar fire is expected to cause moderate noise and light ground shaking. The noise may be louder and travel farther if the skies are cloudy or overcast, the announcement said.
