Man Hospitalized After Route 70 Crash in Manchester

Jeffrey Byrne, 35, appeared to have had a medical emergency, police said.

A Browns Mills man was hospitalized early Friday morning after the car he was driving went off the road and into the woods along Route 70 in Manchester, police said.

Jeffrey Byrne, 35, was found unresponsive and in and out of consciousness when Manchester police responded a report of an accident about 1:30 a.m., on Route 70 near milemarker 35, Capt. Todd Malland said.

Byrne’s vehicle, a 2007 GMC pickup, was eastbound on Route 70 when it left the road, struck a guardrail and several trees before traveling down an embankment into a marsh, Malland said.

Byrne was taken to Community Medical Center, Toms River, for a medical emergency. He was later listed in stable condition with no broken bones or internal injuries, Malland said.

Assisting at the crash scene were Paramedics from MONOC, Quality Medical Transport, and volunteers from the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department. Patrolman Antonio Ellis is investigating.
