Manchester High School Earns 2022 AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award

The award from the College Board honors the school for encouraging girls to take AP computer science and the AP computer science tests.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Manchester Township High School has been honored with the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award by the College Board, the school district announced.

The award honors the district "for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles for the second year in a row," for its efforts to engage more female students in computer science.

It is the second straight year Manchester is being honored.

According to the College Board, more than 1,100 schools had 50 percent or more female students taking one of the two AP computer science courses, or the number of girls taking the computer science exam is equal to or exceeds the percentage of girls in the school during the 2021-22 school year.

In 2022, Manchester Township High School was one of 832 schools recognized in the category of AP Computer Science Principles (CSP).

College Board's research shows that girls who take AP computer science are more likely to major in computer science in college compared with their peers.

"Through Manchester's leadership in diversifying computer science education, the high school is preparing female students for the high-paying, in-demand jobs of the future and giving them the opportunity to help solve some of society's most challenging problems," the district said.

Manchester Township High School's AP Computer Science program in the 2021-22 school year included the following students: Julianna Griffith, Nelia Pikor, Ella Rajcok, Emily Fisher, Angelina Tayeb, Bailee Tupper, Hannah Repuyan and Shonnette Samuel. Their 21-22 AP Computer Science Teacher was Rachel Kelly.
