Manchester Sets Concert Series
The township is moving forward with some of its recreation activities, but others are canceled amid ongoing coronavirus concerns.

MANCHESTER, NJ — As Manchester and New Jersey continue to work through the coronavirus outbreak, the township has announced that some of its recreation programs will be moving forward, including the popular concert series.
The summer concert series will begin July 8, Mayor Ken Palmer said. But Manchester Day, annually held in late June, will likely be canceled for 2020.
"I am more than likely going to nix Manchester Day this year," Palmer said. "It's difficult to ask our vendors to spend the money and come out and not get the response we typically get, as well as the risks that are involved."

The coronavirus crisis, which led to the shutdown of activities across the state, has resulted in restrictions on public gatherings. And while Gov. Phil Murphy has begun loosening the restrictions, allowing increasing gatherings, the number of people permitted at a gathering is only 250 until July 3, when the number increases to 500.

Palmer said the fireworks that are usually part of Manchester Day can be held at a separate time later during the summer.
Palmer said the recreation department is accepting registration for a number of programs, and Harry Wright Lake is open for swimming and other activities. The paddleboats are operating at Pine Lake, but the splashpad is still closed, under Murphy's orders.
The Recreation Department released the schedule for the concert series at Harry Wright Lake. Social distancing rules will be in place, and there will be no dance floor.
Officials also said the dates were coordinated with concert dates in Berkeley Township, so people who wish can attend as many concerts as they wish.
The concerts are scheduled for Wednesdays at Harry Wright Lake, beginning at 5 p.m. The schedule is as follows:
- July 8: 5 p.m. WJRZ; 6 p.m. Jukebox Legends; 7:30 p.m. New Power Soul
